Lois J. (Osborne) Branscom and Steven Branscom

I talked with Mom Thursday evening about Aunt Elsie's obituary and funeral. She said she didn't know Lois had died too. Except she didn't know her as "Lois". She knew her as "Joanna".

With this in mind, I used my Family Tree Maker 2010 software and my subscription to Ancestry.com to research Lois' death records. The Social Security Death Index listed her death February 5, 1999.

Aunt Elsie's obituary also mentioned that a grandson, Steven Branscom, preceded her in death as well. My research in the Social Security Death Index listed his death December 28, 2003. I googled him and found him listed on Classmates.com as a 1996 graduated Kelly Walsh High School and 1992 graduate of Centennial Junior High School.

The Casper Star Tribune - Trib.com site did not have Lois' or Steven's obituaries in the online archive. I will have to do library research when I can make it to Casper.

Amanda (Gustava) Sakrison in Dickey, North Dakota

Amanda Gustava was married to Andres William Sakrison and had a daugher, Emma (my great grandmother).

According to Aunt Hilda's (Boggs) family tree, Amanda (Gustava) Sakrison died in Dickey, North Dakota in 1887. Other online family trees listed her death date as August 1, 1887.

Since I was in the area on a business trip, I drove the backroads from I-94 to small town of Dickey, ND. Since the Dickey Cemetery was not listed on Interment.net, this cemetery was a little trickier to get to. I found the nicely kept grassy cemetery on the west side of town.

Since there wasn't the convenience of a directory this time, my friend, Tom, and I walked through the cemetery looking at headstones for Amanda Sakrison. We searched the cemetery twice with no success.

I am going to try to go back in October to La Moure, ND, the county seat of LaMoure county, to research courthouse and/or library records.

My search for Amanda Sakrison may take me to Jamestown, ND, the county seat of Dickey county which is still in the area.

Luomas and Sakrisson at Hanna (WY) Cemetery

On my way back home for a business trip in Laramie, I decided to find the Hanna Cemetery because I have ancestors buried there.

On the outskirts of town I took out the GPS and entered the coordinates for the cemetery that I got from Interment.net.

I was able to find the cemetery a couple miles out of town on a winding gravel road with no problem. The cemetery was well-kept in the wild grass on top of a hill.

I read the memorial stone for all the miners killed in coal mining accidents.

A friend located the Luomas and William Sakrison on the cemetery directory with the plot numbers and I located the graves on the cemetery map.

We scoured the cemetery looking for the graves that we could find in the hot spring day.

William Sakrison d. Jun 30, 1903, killed in mining explosion
Lempi Luoma b. Feb 1911, d. Mar 1911 buried next to William Sakrisson with no headstone
Arvo Luoma b. 1916, d. 1945 killed in World War II
John Kristian Luoma b. 1872, d. 1947
Matti Hukanluoma d. Jun 30, 1903, killed in mining explosion
Uncle Jack (Johan Jacob Hukanluoma) Luoma b. 1865, d. 1914
Hilda (Luoma) Boggs b. 1902, d. 1995 "niece" buried next to Uncle Jack
Andrew Luoma d. Jun 30, 1903, killed in mining explosion on memorial stone (no grave)
Dan Luoma d. Jun 30, 1903, killed in mining explosion on memorial stone (no grave)
Eric Luoma d. Jun 30, 1903, killed in mining explosion on memorial stone (no grave)
Hulda [Hulda Maria (Hukanluoma) Klemz] b.1903, d. 1992

At the bottom of Uncle Matti's headstone was the name "Hulda". After online research, I found that Hulda Maria Hukanluoma was Matti's only child.
